home cooked meals

one would think that after working 5 days a week, not to mention a bit of a commute and danish language courses on 2 of those days, that i might be tired of baking my own bread. nothing could be further from the truth, at least not yet. the artisan bread is getting better and better as i add new dough to the old one. i can pull it out of the fridge, shape it, take a shower while the dough is resting, and then it's hot out of the oven in time for dinner. it's obviously not as fast as buying a loaf from the bakery, but it's a helluva lot cheaper and fresher. and come on, it just feels awesome eating something you made from scratch; especially when the person sitting across from you is making sounds of satisfaction too. (:

actually my fiance says he feels bad when i make our dinner after i've just come home. uh, what does he think i'm dreaming of when i fall asleep on the train to and from work? it's a joy for me to come home and cook, not a drag! i even made this fairly time-consuming champong for us again last week but with carrots, leek, and twice as many shiitakes. man i love mushrooms so much.

but sometimes even a powerhouse of energy like me (lol) can get a little lazy. for lunch today i just made a big bowl of green... stuff. frozen green beans and peas are blanched, onions and garlic are softened in some hot oil, and they're all cooked together for just a few minutes. slap some salt and pepper on that and eat your fast food in front of the tv like a lazy bum should.

so far i am really enjoying my job and even danish classes are tolerable. life is good. (:
